Salad People

Filed under: Books, Cooking, Danjuro — grace @ 1:17 pm

We went to visit Dan’s friend Julian and made them dinner. I just got “Salad People and More Real Recipes” by Mollie Katzen (who wrote the Moosewood Cookbook). It’s a really nice book that has picture recipes for preschoolers to follow. I made some salad people. Dan and Julian weren’t that interested in helping but they did enjoy eating them!

Kafka on the Shore

I actually read this ages ago but on the way to London in June something happened that reminded me of the book. While Dan was running round the aisles of the plane he kept bumping into this man who would ask him if he had seen his crocodile. The man told me that he knew Haruki Murakami and Johnnie Walker in this book was based on him. Not sure if it was true but it was quite weird and Murakami-like anyway.

The Waves, Virginia Woolf

Filed under: Books, Breastfeeding — grace @ 9:27 am

When Dan falls asleep while breastfeeding, but wakes up if I try to get away, then I use it as a chance to read. I recently started reading this as found it lying around my house  – not sure where it came from – maybe in a batch of english books I bought from someone at Studio Alta, Shinjuku via a classified ad.

Anyway, I like this quote from Susan:

“I like best the stare of shepherds met in the road; the stare of gypsy women beside a cart in a ditch suckling their children as I shall suckle my children”
